Vineyard

Vineyard is a rapidly-growing community in east-central Sacramento County. As a Census Designated Place, Vineyard has a 2024 population of 45,627. But the residents of the community often considers themselves as being linked with other neighboring areas, including the Wildhawk and Vintage Park subdivisions and even the Rosemont CDP (pop. 23,383). Taken together, those communities account for perhaps 60-80,000 residents - for now. The entire area is experiencing a wave of residential construction that will increase the population and strain business and school resources. Although local advisory groups review planning applications, ultimate decisions are made by county staff who are less connected to these communities. Law enforcement, provided by the Sheriff’s office and the California Highway Patrol, is severely under-resourced and unable to provide even moderate attention to the needs of these areas. Quality-of-life issues such as illegal parking, dumping, traffic problems, and the needs and impacts of unhoused individuals often go unaddressed.
