Antelope is a vibrant community of almost 50,000 residents in northern Sacramento County, along the Placer County line. The community is mostly residential, but has a number of substantial commercial areas both within and immediately abutting its boundaries.

Public K-12 education is provided by three high schools, four middle schools, and eleven elementary schools. The Sunrise Recreation and Parks District provides several public parks, including an aquatic center, and there are a number of regional parks nearby. Antelope is presently contiguous with the 95843 ZIP code, but its incorporated boundaries might logically include adjacent areas, such as sections of North Highlands and/or unincorporated territory near the Citrus Heights city limits.

 The needs of the Antelope community are overlooked by county and regional agencies. Antelope is experiencing a wave of residential construction that will increase the population base and tax business and school resources. Although planning applications are reviewed by a local advisory council, ultimate decisions are made by county staff who are not as connected with the local community. Law enforcement, provided by the sheriff’s office and the California Highway Patrol, is gravely understaffed and unable to give even moderate attention to the needs of Antelope residents. Quality-of-life issues such as illegal parking, dumping, traffic problems, and the needs of unhoused individuals are not being addressed. Incorporation would provide the people of Antelope with the means of resolving these issues within their community without having to rely on the county.
