Altadena Rising

Before the Eaton Fire, the unincorporated community of Altadena was a truly special place. Altadenans had formed a livable community of closely-linked neighborhoods and knitted them together with other neighborhoods using some of the of the strongest community fibers imagineable. The relationships they made were so powerful that now, despite the residents having been dispersed far and wide by the disastrous Eaton Fire, Altadena still functions as a community. Among the many groups now working to restore Altadena is "Altadena Rising". Their website has an interactive map with thousands of photos that show current post-fire street views with links to Google Map street views of the same locations from before the fire. That's not a trivial task. It is time-consuming, as those of us who write for our own website can tell you. Altadena Rising also has a "stories " section where residents are beginning to post their own memories and hopes for the future. That's powerful, because stories are vital elements of social media. The volunteers behind Altadena Rising's extraordinary website are doing all that while they are also dealing with substantial post-fire challenges of their own. We urge our readers to visit Altadena Rising's website. It provides a very useful service (now & then photos and personal insights) that is just one part of Altadena's remarkable community fabric.
