After some 30 years, the citizens of Mountain House are finally being given an opportunity to see their community become a city. On March 5th voters will be asked whether Mountain House should become a municipality and also whether the Mountain House Community Services District should transition into the city government.  KCRA3 in Sacramento sent a reporter (Lee Anne Denyer) to Mountain House to cover the story. At the conclusion of the report, KCRA anchor Andrea Flores added that only four cities in the station's viewing area have been formed in the last 3 decades: Truckee (1993), Citrus Heights (1997), Elk Grove (2000) and Rancho Cordova (2003). If voters approve making Mountain House a city, their community will become the first new city in California since Jurupa Valley was formed in 2011.

Mountain House is something of a special case in that it was formed by San Joaquin County with the intent to one day have its own municipal government. The County was responsible for forming - and staffing - the Mountain House Community Services District. Further, Mountain House is most definitely on the bleeding edge of growth in the Bay Area. The regional economy has been expanding consistently compared to the region's housing inventory.  Mountain House has provided critical new housing for the Bay Area.

Our coalition has been disappointed that it has taken so long for the proposed City of Mountain House to get to the ballot. However we are very grateful that San Joaquin County planned for the new city to happen, we applaud the careful stewardship that has been exercised by the Mountain House Community Services District, and we are thrilled that the people of Mountain House will have an opportunity to decide if they want local control.
